With fall fast approaching and the 2008 presidential election campaigns under way, the League of Women Voters of Saratoga County were on hand Tuesday, July 29, at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library to help people register to vote.
More than 25 people sought assistance from the representatives throughout the day with questions on how to register to updating their current registration.
The Saratoga County League attends the Saratoga Farmers Market every other Saturday to share the necessity of voting with market shoppers, said Francie Rodger of Clifton Park, who was working at the League of Women Voter’s table set up at the library Tuesday.
Rodger said on Tuesday she registered several people to vote, including first-time voters and residents new to the area.
Rodger explained that if a person is not found on the poll sheet for a specific jurisdiction they should still vote by affidavit ballot. This allows a person to cast a vote and sign a statement stating they thought they were registered to vote in that particular district.
Insist on voting and figure it out later, Rodger said.
However, she encouraged people to go online and check their voter registration. She said the state Board of Elections allows people to see where they are registered and download registration forms.
The Saratoga County League is a part of the national League of Women Voters, established in 1920 by Carrie Champman Catt.

In addition to the presidential election Tuesday, Nov. 4, the library budget vote will be held Thursday, Sept. 11.
