Albany County Sheriff James Campbell, along with STOP-DWI Administrator Leonard Crouch, announced on Wednesday, July 30, that a blanket DWI patrol will be conducted throughout Albany County.
The patrol begins on Thursday, July 31, at 6 p.m. and will last until 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Along with State Police and the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, eleven municipal police departments will participate and be on patrol for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In New York State, any blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or greater will result in a DWI charge. A lower blood-alcohol level can result in an infraction charge of driving while ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The last DWI sweep in the county during the Fourth of July weekend resulted in 19 individuals being arrested for drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.
The municipalities involved in the sweep include: Albany Police; Altamont Police; Bethlehem Police; Coeymans Police; Cohoes Police; Colonie Police; Green Island Police; Guilderland Police; Menands Police; SUNY police; and Watervliet Police.
