The long-running Briansky Saratoga Ballet Center will be holding a dance workshop demonstration at Skidmore College Saturday, July 26.
The demonstration will be put on by the ballet’s teachers and will be held in the Skidmore Dance Theater at 1:30 p.m.
The Briansky Ballet is a world-renowned ballet company that has been in operation since 1965 in Skidmore College.
We have students from all over the world, said Oleg Briansky. `We have students from the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Switzerland and Japan.`
Briansky, the ballet’s founder and director since its inception, is an established dancer in his own right, having been a performer since the 1950s and having played lead roles in `The Merry Widow,` `Don Quichotte,` `Romeo and Juliet` and `Scheherazade,` and has performed with such companies as Ballet des Champs-Elysees, the Ballet de Paris, London Festival Ballet (English National Ballet), the New York Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and the Munich Opera Ballet. Briansky has also served on the jury for the Prix de Lausanne Ballet competition, and also has worked as the associate artistic director of the Ballet de Rio de Janeiro, and artistic director of the ballet documentary `Children of Theatre Street.`
Briansky founded the Briansky Saratoga Ballet Center in 1965 along with co-founder and choreographer Mireille Briane, who has appeared with companies such as the Ballets de Paris, the Chicago Opera Ballet and London Festival Ballet.
The school’s goal is to increase the confidence of its students `channeling their energies into disciplined forms of self-expression.`
Students also learn about this history of ballet, working with guest teachers and viewing films on the topic of dance. The school also assists students in using their talents professionally by finding careers as dancers in ballet companies worldwide.
Briansky’s company has made Skidmore College its home since its inception, and has continuously performed at the Dance Theater during that time.
`I love their facilities` said Briansky. `We live in a dormitory situation and have full access to the sports and dance centers, as well as all of the dining halls.`
