National Park Service Northeast Regional Director Dennis Reidenbach selected Joe Finan as the superintendent of Saratoga National Historical Park.
Finan will oversee the operations at the four sites that comprise Saratoga National Historical Park: the Saratoga Battlefield, General Philip Schuyler House, Saratoga Monument and Victory Woods a new area that will be opened to the public later this year. Finan will begin his assignment immediately. He follows former Superintendent Frank Dean, who was promoted to head the National Park Service Centennial Planning Office in Washington, D.C.
Joe Finan brings nationally recognized technical knowledge to his new post as superintendent. Besides his park management skills, we have counted on him to help others, as a member of the Department of Interior National Incident Command Team, a group that responds to national catastrophic events like 9/11 and hurricanes Isabelle and Katrina. And we have used his expertise to evaluate and improve operational effectiveness in other parks as well.` said Reidenbach.
Finan is a 29-year veteran of the National Park Service and since 2004 has served as deputy superintendent at Saratoga. He had been facility manager there beginning in 1990. He began his career as a seasonal laborer at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Fire Island National Seashore, and the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt National Historic Site, and at Booker T. Washington National Monument in Virginia. He holds a degree in forestry from Paul Smith’s College.
`I’m excited about this new assignment,` said Finan, who has been involved with community and regional planning initiatives. He lives in Easton with his wife, Mary.“
