Wednesday. Thursday. Friday. Pug Day.
Residents in the Village of Colonie counted down the days until their pugs came together, dressed up and ready to compete this past Saturday, June 14.
According to Maryanne Casale, member and spokeswoman of the Albany-Capital District Pug Lovers Meetup Group who holds the event each year, Saturday was the second year that the pug-festival has been held at the Sharon Drive Pavillion, in Cook Park. Casale said the fundraiser is held to benefit rescued pugs as they are adopted by foster homes and medical charges need to be covered.
These are pugs that have spent their entire lives in cages and you can see what has come from it by looking at them now. The money for the pugs is raised by individuals who attend Pug Day, bringing their furry friends who are dressed in costume, and paying to enter their pets in the costume contest.
Mayor Leak said his black pug, Sophie, was not able to attend this year’s Pug Costume Ball, due to a recent surgery on her leg.
The pugs gathered at the Sharon Drive Pavillion, Cook Park, in the Village of Colonie, from noon to 4 p.m.
