The first time wasn’t the charm for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys lacrosse team.
South Glens Falls used a 4-0 second quarter run to break open a close game and pulled away for a 13-5 victory over the Spartans in last Friday’s Section II, Class B championship game at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
No. 4 BH-BL got off to a good start in its first appearance in the finals. After allowing a goal to Mark Leeson in the opening minute, the Spartans scored three of the next four goals to take a 3-2 lead. Junior Ian Schwan led the charge with a pair of goals.
That was the last lead BH-BL enjoyed. No. 3 South High tied the game late in the first quarter before outscoring the Spartans 10-2 the rest of the way.
Leeson did much of the scoring for the Bulldogs (9-8). The junior attacker scored seven goals and assisted on two more to propel South High into Tuesday’s regional against the Section I champion. Adam Barber chipped in with three goals.
Mike Eddy contributed two goals, and Shawn Nash added a goal for BH-BL (3-18), which finished its second season at the varsity level. Goaltender Connor Nash stopped 20 of the 33 shots he faced.`
