At its meeting on Tuesday, May 27, the Guilderland Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Demian Singleton to the position of assistant superintendent for instruction. Singleton will be succeeding the current assistant superintendent, Nancy Andress, upon her retirement from the district in August.
Singleton has been with the Guilderland Central School District since 1996, serving most recently as the instructional supervisor for mathematics and science at Farnsworth Middle School. Prior to that, he worked as a seventh-grade science teacher at the school. Singleton began his career in education as a Regents biology teacher at South Colonie High School.
He is involved in several professional organizations, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Science Teachers Association, and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics. Singleton has also chaired numerous committees throughout the Guilderland Central School District and was a guest presenter at the 2008 National Curriculum Mapping Institute.
Singleton is a graduate of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where he received his bachelor’s degree in environmental biology/microbiology, and of the University at Albany, where he earned a master’s degree in science education. Singleton is also currently completing his coursework for a doctorate degree in educational leadership at Sage Graduate School.

Throughout the next few weeks, Singleton will be working closely with the current assistant superintendent for instruction to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. His new duties will officially begin in mid-August 2008 and his annual salary will be $115,000.“
