Tim MacFarlane, R-Scotia, announced his candidacy for this fall’s special election for the Schenectady County Legislature’s third district on Thursday, May 22.
District three serves residents of Niskayuna, Scotia and Glenville.
MacFarlane currently serves in the Village of Scotia’s Police Department. MacFarlane has been in the law enforcement profession for more than 30 years.
In a press release, MacFarlane said he would fight for issues that impact county taxpayers and families.
From record-high gas prices, to homeowners paying the tenth-highest property taxes in our nation, to serious concerns about runaway spending, and growing fears about public safety, families across Schenectady County are hurting, said McFarlane. `We need a new direction. I am running to serve in the County Legislature to help chart a new course for Schenectady families.`
County Republican Chairman Tom Buchanan said MacFarlane had the best credentials of several interested candidates. He listed McFarlane’s employment history and his participation in community organizations as his strongest merits.
`He has a presence in the community,` said Buchanan.
MacFarlane will face appointed Legislator Martin Finn, D-Niskayuna in a fall election.
