Less than 24 hours after his ninth birthday, Mohammad Karime, of Iran, will be getting a unique present this year: a tear duct.
Dr. George Stasior will be performing the surgery at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 24 that will allow Karime’s tearflow to function properly. According to Stasior, this tearducts are important because if your tear duct gets blocked, chronic redness and irritation can occur, and eventually you may get an infection.
Friday’s surgery will be the 19th reconstructive surgery Karime has had in an attempt to correct elements of his face that were damaged by a birth defect.
Karime was unable to be reached, as Dr. Mohammad Baghaei-rad, the surgeon whose family Karime and his mother are staying with in Amsterdam, NY, said, `It’s his birthday and we want him to be happy-not thinking of surgeries.`
