Town Attorney Michael Magguilli said today that former self-proclaimed Cotton Candy Man Ned Greeson would now be able to enter town property once again as his 14-day ban from any property owned by the town of Colonie has been lifted.
The ban, which Greeson received in the form of a letter drafted by Magguilli, was put in place while an investigation of Greeson and a sample of cotton candy he produced was in place after a Town employee’s child became sick and an amount of insect poisoning was detected in the candy.
The candy itself was distributed to employees of the town on St. Patrick’s Day, as Greeson said he had extra and wanted to hand some out for free.
Early this month, town officials were notified of the child’s illness and the sample was tested, at which time the poison was confirmed. However, a more extensive testing to determine whether the amount of poison in the candy was enough to confirm that Greeson was intentionally poisoning people of the town was conducted, and Colonie Police Chief Steve Heider confirmed that the amount of poison found in the candy does not imply such activity.
`We can assume that it was not an intentional poisoning,` said Heider, who said posion could have gotten into the candy unintentionally at the scene where the candy was produced.
