Ian Tapler performed well in both hurdles events, and Roland Graves added a victory in the 3,200-meter race to lead Guilderland to the boys team title at Saturday’s Johnstown Invitational track and field meet.
Tapler won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15 seconds, and he placed second to Albany Academy’s Riker Wikoff in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles to provide 18 of Guilderland’s 109 team points.
Graves cruised to a 16.7-second victory over Bishop Gibbons’ Jonathan Aziz in the 3,200-meter race. The senior who was also part of Guilderland’s first-place 3,200-meter relay team won with a time of 9:39.9.
Michael Heiserman, Dashawn Gates and Giancarlo Vissat contributed second-place finishes for Guilderland. Heiserman finished second to Albany’s Kewsi Burgess in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.3 seconds, while Gates missed first place by one-tenth of a second in the 400-meter dash. Gates finished with a time of 52.4 seconds, while Gloversville’s Chris Smith took the title with a time of 52.3 seconds.
Vissat was the runner-up in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:04.2. Albany’s Noel Fabian won the race in a time of 2:03.7.
Ethan Doak and Max Goodknight added third-place performances. Doak was third in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 11.5 seconds, while Goodknight placed third in the pole vault after he cleared the bar at 11 feet, 6 inches.
The Guilderland girls track team placed third at the Queensbury Invitational with 87 points, 30 points behind first-place Shenendehowa. Voorheesville finished ninth with 29 points.
Liz Schwennker led the Lady Dutch by winning the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.16 seconds. Schwennker also teamed up with Jackie Deluise, Lindsay Hall and Anna Pickett to win the 1,600 relay in a time of 4:08.67.
Caitlin Ableseth and Seneca Gray each had second-place finishes for Voorheesville. Ableseth was second to Fair Haven’s Ashley Brown in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 13.23 seconds, and Gray placed second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:10.17.
Voorheesville placed sixth in the boys team standings at Queensbury with 58.5 points. Ian Powell led the Blackbirds with a victory in the 800-meter race. Powell finished with a time of 1:59.43.“
