The Schalmont baseball team kept pace with first-place Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in the Colonial Council with a pair of convincing league victories.
The Sabres (8-3 league, 9-5 overall) downed Lansingburgh 22-0 Friday and defeated Coble-skill-Richmondville 19-4 Monday to stay two games behind the Indians with less than two weeks left in the regular season.
Fred Davidson and J.P. Sport-man did most of the damage for Schalmont in both games. Davidson drove in three runs with a home run and two singles, while Sportman had five RBI against Lansingburgh. Davidson and Sportman each drove in four runs during Monday’s victory over Cobleskill-Richmondville, with Davidson hitting a solo home run as part of his day.
Scotia-Glenville is also in a battle for a league title as the baseball season winds down. The Tartans raised their Foothills Council record to 8-2 following Monday’s 4-0 victory over Glens Falls to stay two games behind league-leading South Glens Falls in the loss column.
James Brown pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout, and Ethan Revelia drove in the first two runs of the game with a single to lead Scotia-Glenville to victory.
Elsewhere Monday, Schenectady Christian lit up the scoreboard in a 22-4 Western Athletic Conference victory over Sharon Springs. Ian Compton led the way with four hits including a home run and a triple, while five other Falcons Matt Gallup, Chris Kovel, Magnus Balters, Chris Stephano and George Amedore contributed two hits apiece.
In the Suburban Council, Niskayuna pulled out a 5-1 victory over Ballston Spa, while Columbia edged Mohonasen 4-3.
Adrian Mitchell hit a double and two singles, and Shawn Callahan added a two-run homer for Niskayuna, which improved its league record to 5-3 (10-3 overall). Kyle Baldani tripled for Ballston Spa.
In East Greenbush, Columbia scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the winning run in the eighth to edge Mohonasen. Nolan Gaige belted an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth for the Blue Devils.“
