The Ballston Spa girls track team continued its string of strong invitational meet performances with a victory at Saturday’s Warrior Classic in Niskayuna.
The Scotties fought off a challenge from Queensbury to claim the girls team title with 148 points. Queensbury was second with 119 points, and Voorheesville placed third with 64 points.
Hurdles proved to be a strong suit for Ballston Spa. Kelcie LaRoche and Krysandra Kverek swept the top two places in the 100-meter hurdles finals, while Erica Brockmann finished first in the 400 intermediate hurdles.
LaRoche claimed the 100 high hurdles title with a time of 17.2 seconds, two-tenths of a second ahead of Kverek. Brockmann won the 400 intermediate hurdles in a time of 70.8 seconds, while Kverek placed fourth in a time of 76.5 seconds.
Danielle Moriarity had a big day for Ballston Spa in field events. The junior won the pole vault by clearing 10 feet, 6 inches, and she took first place in the shot put with a throw of 31-3.75 in the finals. Moriarity was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 67-5.
Katie Dickman was also a double winner for the Scotties. She won the 1,500 in a time of 5:01.7, and she teamed up with Emily Wanerka, Jenn Stodgell and Carrie Mansir to win the 1,600 relay in a time of 4:21.2. Wanerka and Dickman placed a respective third and fourth in the 800.

It was the second invitational meet in a row that Ballston Spa’s girls team placed in the top two. The Scotties were second at the Ballston Spa Lions Invitational one week earlier.
On the boys’ side, Ballston Spa placed third out of 12 teams with 51.33 points. Shaker won the meet with 161.33 points.
Brian Yingling had the top individual performance for Ballston Spa. The junior leapt 20-4.5 to win the long jump.
Michael Lyons was second in the 3,000 with a time of 9:25.5, while Matthew Pastore and Evan Grey finished a respective third and fourth in the 400 dash. Devin Bennet took fifth place in the 800.“
