The Ballston Spa Board of Education narrowed its search for a new school superintendent to two candidates, who will spend a day touring school facilities and meeting the community.
After reviewing several applications and interviewing seven candidates over the winter, the board decided on two candidates who will each present an entry plan in assuming the role of superintendent to the community.
After a lengthy process this winter that included screening applications and interviewing seven candidates, the board members decided upon candidates to move forward to meet with school officials and representative groups throughout the school district.
The district has not released the names of the candidates.
The superintendent candidates are scheduled to make open presentations to the community at 7:30 p.m. on the day of their interviews. The community forum will be their opportunity to present their ideas on an entry plan for assuming the role of superintendent of schools, said school officials. The Board of Education members will meet with the candidate at the end of these presentations.
The first candidate presented his entry plan Tuesday, March 11, after The Spotlight went to press.
The second candidate is scheduled to share his entry plan Monday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m.
The Board of Education will issue a decision regarding the candidates in the next several weeks, said district officials. The schedule is to appoint the new school leader in the spring and have them start by July 1. School officials said they are asking anyone who would like additional information on the process to contact the district office at 884-7195 ext. 310.
The new hire will replace Raymond Colucciello, who has served as the interim superintendent for three years. Colucciello took over after John Gratto resigned from the position in 2005.
There are several changes in the school district on the forefront, as the school will change from half day to full day kindergarten in the fall, and move ahead with a proposed reconfiguration plan.
The board adopted the reconfiguration plan in late-February for implementation in September. The configuration will make the district’s three elementary schools kindergarten-to-fifth grade compatible.
