The Guilderland boys basketball team threw every weapon it had against Christian Brothers Academy, but it wasn’t enough.
Malcolm Austin scored 23 points to lead the Brothers to a 56-55 victory over the Dutchmen in last Thursday’s Section II, Class AA semifinal game at Albany’s Times Union Center.
I am proud of my kids. They played as hard as they could, said Guilderland coach Ron Osinski. `It just comes down to they scored one more point than we did.`
CBA jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter, which prompted Osinski to call a time out. After that, Guilderland outscored the Brothers 22-17 to cut the deficit to 26-24 at halftime.
`We changed up our defense, and that caused them some problems,` said Osinski.
The Dutchmen kept the defensive pressure on CBA in the second half, but the Brothers made the clutch shots in the fourth quarter to hang on for the one-point win.
`In a one-point game, it comes down to one or two bounces that go one team’s way, and that’s what happened in this game,` said Osinski.
Brett Marfurt had 19 points, Andrew Smith contributed 12 points and Jon Terry added 11 points for Guilderland, which finished with a 20-3 record.“
