Glenville police arrested a woman who allegedly used stolen credit cards to make purchases at area Wal-Mart stores.
Victoria Horton, 34, of Broadalbin was charged with identity theft in the second degree, a felony, on Thursday, Feb. 7. She allegedly stole the identity of numerous patients who were being treated by New York Oncology in Gloversville. Horton, who was employed as a financial counselor for New York Oncology, allegedly stole names, addresses, date of births and social security numbers then fraudulently obtained Wal-Mart Discover credit card accounts.
Horton then allegedly used stolen credit and made purchases from Capital District Wal-Mart stores from October to late December in Schenectady, Saratoga, Montgomery and Rensselaer counties.
According to Sgt. Steve Janik of the Glenville police, Horton allegedly bought gift cards and electronics items with the stolen credit cards, but authorities don’t currently have a value for the items.
Wal-Mart loss prevention officials said they are working with local authorities and are currently conducting an investigation into the case.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service also received complaints from residents that their identities had been stolen. The residents claimed they had not made purchases listed on their credit card bills. The Postal Service is currently conducting its own investigation.
Horton was processed and released on an appearance ticket for Glenville Town Court on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
