Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton said he won’t run for Congress on Monday, Feb. 11, likely ending the possibility that a Schenectady County Democrat will pursue a bid for the 21st Congressional seat.
The decision by Stratton comes a week after Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature Susan E.Savage, D-Niskayuna, denied rumors that she would pursue the seat currently held by Mike McNulty, D-Green Island. The incumbent Congressman announced last year that he would not seek another term. McNulty took office in 1988 and was the successor of Brian Stratton’s father, Samuel S. Stratton, who had a 30-year career as a member of Congress.
