The Shenendehowa and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys soccer teams are still alive for Section II titles.
Shen moved into the class AA semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Christian Brothers Academy Monday in Clifton Park, while BH-BL advanced in class A with a 6-1 quarterfinal victory over Glens Falls in Burnt Hills.
Shen (13-1-4) used a balanced attack to defeat CBA in its quarterfinal game. Four players scored a goal, with Andrew Tambasco leading the way with a goal and two assists.
T.J. Popolizio had a goal and an assist, while David Clemens and Joey Miner each scored a goal for the Plainsmen, who face Bethlehem the only team to beat Shen this season in Thursday’s semifinal at Colonie Central High School.
In Burnt Hills, the Spartans (14-4-1) ran out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised on to meet top seed Albany Academy in Thursday’s class A semifinal in Queensbury.
Shawn Fitzpatrick scored twice and added an assist to lead BH-BL. Steve Childs, John DellaPia, Dan DiSorbo and Andrew Levy also tallied, and Ethan Chase added two assists.
Both Saratoga and Saratoga Central Catholic suffered opening round losses in their respective classes. Albany edged Saratoga 2-1 in last Thursday’s class AA opening round game, while Mechanicville shut out Saratoga Central Catholic 1-0 in a class CC opening round contest.
Saratoga finished with an 8-9-1 record, while Saratoga Central Catholic wrapped up its season at 8-11-0.
In the girls soccer playoffs, Shen reached the class AA semifinals with a victory over Queensbury Tuesday, while Ballston Spa and Saratoga saw their seasons come to an end with quarterfinal losses.
Dana DeSimone scored four goals to lead Shen to a 5-0 victory over Queensbury. Molly Popolizio added the other goal for the Plainswomen (15-3-1), who outshot the Spartans 26-2.
Shen meets Shaker in Saturday’s semifinals at Broadalbin-Perth High School after the Blue Bison defeated Saratoga 4-2 in Latham. Kat Thomas had a goal and two assists to lead Shaker (14-3-1) into the semifinals for the second time in three years.
Liz Boyer and Maria Scerra tallied for Saratoga, which finished with a 13-6-1 record.
In Ballston Spa, Niskayuna got a second half goal from Meghan Mosch to defeat the Scotties 1-0. Goaltender Rene Cairns made seven saves for Ballston Spa, which finished with a 9-6-3 record.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake moved on to the class A semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Gloversville last Friday.
Monica Wolff scored a goal and assisted on another for the Lady Spartans (7-9-3), who met South Glens Falls Wednesday for the right to advance to Saturday’s final. Georgina Farrow and Nicole Collins also tallied.“
