A Watervliet father and son have been arrested for robbery after allegedly leaving the Slingerlands Price Chopper with a cart full of unpaid groceries and using a pit bull to keep loss prevention employees from following them.
Carl R. Swenson, 52, and his son Travis Swenson of Watervliet, were taken into custody without incident a few hours after they left the store on Thursday morning, Oct. 11.
One of the two men were chased by a loss prevention employee after they left the store with a full shopping cart. According to police reports, a struggle ensued and one of the suspects made it to their car. The suspect inside the car tried to entice a pit bull with them to attack the store employee. The dog then lunged at the employee but did not bite the person. The Swensons left the scene in a Chevy Silverado.
Carl Swenson is charged with third degree robbery, reckless endangerment, and petit larceny. Travis Swenson is charged with menacing and reckless endangerment. The two were arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court.
