A few months ago, members of planning and town board departments in the village of Glenville expressed excitement to see development on Route 50, across from Price Chopper, finally begin.
The developers, Nigro Company, told town officials their plans for a new plaza with an old-world appeal. That plaza has since reached a few roadblocks, delaying a project the town had hoped to see close to completion by fall.
There have been some discrepancies between the owners of the property and some of the companies who were going to be leasing properties. One in particular is Panera Breads, who is now having doubts due to a decrease in their last-quarter profits, said town Supervisor Frank X. Quinn.
Quinn told board members at the Wednesday, Aug. 15, meeting that talks of a Target department store moving into another Route 50 property, the old Kmart building, have also fallen through because the owners of the property were not willing to sell, but instead to only offered the option of leasing.
Town board member Mark Quinn said there were other logistics issues for Target as well.
`Let me first say I was pulling for this to be a possibility because I think it’s a great chain. However, the typical Target store requires more square footage than this property has to offer. We are hopeful that eventually the right offer will come along. The town only has so much say since we do not own it,` said Quinn.
Meanwhile the town is moving closer to finalizing details for a new Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse along Freeman’s Bridge Road.
The town’s planning and zoning commission approved plans for the 171,000-square-foot store. The first phase of the project will include adding a traffic light and widening Freeman’s Bridge Road. Final approval is expected in early September, followed by a more concrete timeframe of when the project will begin.
Another major addition to the town is the proposed facility by Super Steel in the Scotia-Glenville Industrial Park. The new 2,000-square-foot building will be used to test refurbished rail cars. Earlier this month, the board heard a presentation on the future of the industrial park.
`We are moving in the direction of improving and expanding our industrial park, this just adds to that momentum,` said Supervisor Quinn.
