The Golub Corporation is planning to remodel and expand its facilities at the company’s headquarters off Duanesburg Road to accommodate Price Chopper’s expanding organic food department.
Project manager for the proposed expansion, Barbara Beall of Chazen Cos., made a presentation to Rotterdam’s Planning Commission on Tuesday, Aug 7.
The plan would modify the existing Golub Headquarters and Distribution Facility to include 89,000 additional square feet at the company’s perishable warehouse, a 30,000 square-foot vehicle maintenance facility and 210 trailer parking spaces.
Beall said the company is expanding because of the growing natural and organic food departments.
In March, Price Chopper announced it was increasing its amount of natural and organic foods to align the company with other supermarket chains.
Beall said construction would occur in an area that has already been developed and would not harm any wetlands.
Beall said the Golub Corporation is also expanding its recycling and reclamation facility because company officials anticipate that the state will expand the Bottle Bill, which would increase the amount of recycled bottles that would go through the plant. The company also has a program that recycles used plastic bags.
Town Planner Peter Comenzo said Golub’s plan to expand its facility is straightforward and he doesn’t expect the town to have any problems with it.
In 2000, the planning commission approved a major expansion at the Golub Corporation’s headquarters that included a 125,000 square-foot expansion of the company’s grocery warehouse and a 50,000 square-foot expansion of its perishable warehouse. Comenzo said during that process most of the wetlands were delineated so the town knows where they are allowed to build.
The last time the Golub Corporation expanded was in 2005 when the company built a 152,000 square-foot freezer warehouse in the Rotterdam Industrial Park behind the company’s headquarters.
We work really well with the Golub Corporation, Comenzo said. `They have a good group of folks there and we have a close relationship with them. If we need something, they get it to us.`
