New York City Ballet dancer Nilas Martins pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a violation, in City Court on Aug. 9, five weeks after being arrested for felony possession of cocaine.
Saratoga Springs City Court Judge Douglas Mills sentenced Martins to mandatory drug and alcohol treatment and 40 hours of community service. He paid a $200 fine and $95 surcharge.
On July 3, Saratoga Springs police charged Martins with felony cocaine possession after they allegedly caught him with cocaine while he was in his BMW at 1:32 a.m. with an unidentified passenger who was not arrested.
The charge was later lessened to a misdemeanor after police weighed the drug and determined the amount did not warrant a felony charge.
After sentencing, Martins lawyer, E. Stewart Jones, said his client has never used drugs and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
