We all know the big summer events on the village of Altamont.
There is CountryFest, the Altamont Fair, Bozenkill Park picnics and the village-wide garage sale.
In the midst of all these events are those at Orsini Park that provide afternoons of family fun in the park’s intimate setting.
On Saturday, July 15, The Puppet People will be performing a variety of acts that they call a fun festival.
`Every summer we are fortunate to be able to bring one of our seven shows to the village and we are always well received by Altamont residents,` said Puppet People performer and co-founder Michele Smith-Carrigan.
Smith-Carrigan and her husband Mark Carrigan have been entertaining crowds for more than 20 years. The Rotterdam couple creates each puppet by hand as well as the scene and scripts which provide a variety of unique shows.
The two have performed at Lincoln Center, The Egg, Capital Repertory Theatre, Steamer No. 10 and various schools throughout the northeast. They are currently in the process of producing their own show. The show in Orsini Park is free and open to the public.
The village park 4 p.m. performance is titled `Puppet Potpourri.` This festival of frolics showcases hand puppets, mouth puppets, rod puppets and trick marionettes. All skits are accompanied by musical favorites such as the Entertainer, the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, the Barber of Seville and the Charleston. Last year the duo performed a show in the park that was a crowd pleaser.
`The shows are not just for kids, they are truly entertaining for people of any age,` said Joanne Zeimann of Altamont.
The Puppet People will perform locally throughout the summer. In addition to Altamont, you can catch shows in Clifton Park, Scotia, Schenectady and Saratoga Springs.
The Altamont Library will be providing refreshments for the event, all of their proceeds will go to help fund their move into the train station.
