Scratched, until at least next week, is Giddy Up, one of the city’s 34 `Horses, Saratoga Style.`
The piece of artwork, on display in front of Bonacio Construction, was most likely vandalized between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, police Sgt. Warren Wildy said.
Kathy Gosier, general manager of Bonacio Construction, discovered the damaged horse Saturday morning.
According to police, an individual or group pushed over the bejeweled horse, breaking it at the legs. They then moved the disconnected torso several feet from the concrete slab it was anchored to.
So far, police have no leads on the suspected vandal.
`This is an ongoing, active investigation,` said Wildy.
Gosier said the sculpture has been moved to Bonacio’s metal shop, where workers will `put him back together like Humpty Dumpty.` Artists Dana Rudolph and Ronda Jeffer will replace the mosaic work that covered `Giddy Up.`
The last time painted horses were displayed in Saratoga Springs in 2002, five of the 23 sculptures were vandalized or stolen outright.
