In a 3-1 vote the Rotterdam Town Board voted down a resolution to adopt a local law that would phase in new property assessments over a five year period at a special meeting Saturday, March 31.
Council members Diane Marco, Joseph Signore and Robert Godlewski voted against adopting the Transitional Assessment Law, council member John Mertz voted in favor of it and supervisor Steven Tommasone abstained because he said there was not enough information for him to make an informed decision.
The issue of phasing new property reassessments over a five year period was first brought to light at a special Town Board meeting Friday, March 23, and has been the topic of town discussion for the past week.
The town’s meeting room was full of concerned residents most of which spoke against adopting the transitional assessment law.
