The Schenectady Christian boys basketball team is going where no team in school history has gone before the state playoffs.
The Falcons overcame an early 11-point deficit to run away with a 75-54 vic-tory over Argyle in Mon-day’s Section II, Class C-CC championship game in Glens Falls.
Schenectady Christian (23-1) trailed 31-20 in the second quarter before turning on the jets. The Falcons outscored Argyle 55-23 the rest of the way to pull ahead and away from the Scots (16-8).
Matt McCarty led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Bowman contributed 20 points, Bryan Bishop chipped in 16 points on five three-pointers and a free throw, and Jared Kulbako added 10 points for the Falcons.
Schenectady Christian advances to Friday’s class C regional against Section X champion Bruston-Moira at SUNY Potsdam.
The Falcons recorded their first Sectional title last Saturday with a 61-59 double overtime victory over defending champion Stillwater in Glens Falls.
Schenectady Christian trailed 38-33 going into the fourth quarter, but the Falcons chipped away until Kulbako made a three-pointer and was fouled with less than one minute left. Kulbako made the free throw to give Schenectady Christian a 47-46 lead. Stillwater regained the lead briefly, but Kelsey Collins made one of two free throws to force the game into overtime.
The Falcons finally sealed their victory when Bowman hit a jump shot with a minute left in the second overtime period. Bowman finished with 26 points, and Kulbako contributed 14 points.
Travis Wilson led Stillwater with 37 points.
While the Schenectady Christian boys team was winning its first Sectional title last weekend, the Scotia school’s girls team was trying to defend its title against Schoharie, but the Indians pulled away for a 45-31 victory in Friday’s class C championship game at Hudson Valley Community College.
Ashlyn Slater had 13 points to lead the Falcons, but leading scorer Sarah Child was held scoreless. Child pulled down 15 rebounds.
Schalmont lost to Watervliet 57-33 in Saturday’s class B final.`
