Colonie Town Supervisor Mary E. Brizzell Friday announced that the Town of Colonie in conjunction with the Mohawk River Community partners of Colonie Inc., will hold a contest to rename the town park to reflect the significant resources and history of the park’s location on the Mohawk River.
The contest is open to the more than 80,000 residents of the Town of Colonie.
‘I encourage all those who are interested to take part in the Name the Park Contest, Brizzell said. ‘This is a wonderful opportunity that will allow residents to compete for a chance to name a historic landmark in our great town.
Mohawk River Community Partners of Colonie Inc. will select three names for the town park from those submitted. The three names will be forwarded to the Colonie Town Board, who will then select the winning name. The grand prize winner will receive a 2007 season family pool pass.
The park’s new name will be unveiled at the Colonie Mohawk River Fest on June 9.
According to Brizzell, the park name entries should contain the words Colonie and Mohawk. The ideal name will be easy to remember and provide the best association with the area’s history, heritage and location.
Contestants may obtain an entry form and view the official rules by visiting the Town of Colonie Web site at www.colonie.org/mohawk.
Contestants may also mail in their entry form with the following information: contestant’s full-name, address, phone number, e-mail address.
Entries must be postmarked or e-mailed by Sunday, April 1. Mail entries to: Mohawk River Community Partners of Colonie, P.O. Box 462, Latham 12110. E-mail entries to [email protected].
Contestants may enter up to three different names.
