Bethlehem Town Democratic Chairman Matthew Clyne is slated to be the next Albany County Democratic elections commissioner.
Clyne defeated Karen Shea of Slingerlands in a close, weighted committee vote of the party on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Clyne was the choice of town committee voters and received more weighted votes then Shea, the city’s choice, even though Shea received 367 committee votes to Clyne’s 218 votes.
This vote is reflective of where the party support is in the suburban areas, said county Legislator Jack Cunningham, D-Delmar.
Clyne stills needs to be approved by the Albany County Legislature on Monday, March 12. There are currently two vacant positions on the board.
Clyne will replace James Clancy who now holds a position in Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s administration.
The election commissioner post has an $80,000 salary.
