Delaney Construction of Mayfield has been awarded a $15.2 million contract to build a new highway bypass, known as the Slingerlands bypass, for state Route 85 in Bethlehem.
We are here today to announce a milestone in the Slingerlands bypass, said Thomas C. Werner, regional director of the NYSDOT, at a press conference Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Bethlehem Town Hall.
The project, slated to begin in March and continue through June of 2008, includes three new roundabouts, reconstructing 1.5 miles of Route 85 between Cherry Avenue Extension and Blessing Road, and widening a three-lane bridge to five lanes over the Normans Kill.
`This project will vastly improve safety and vehicle movement through the corridor and provide an opportunity for much-needed and diversified economic development,` said Bethlehem Supervisor Theresa Egan.
The Slingerlands bypass project is considered to be the first step in the development of a proposed Vista Technology Park, expected to bring more than 4,000 new jobs to the town and Albany County over the next decade.
