Three Guilderland Central School District teachers have recently met one of their profession’s most difficult challenges by earning national certification.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recently announced the names of 98 state teachers who obtained the symbol of professional teaching excellence, and Guilderland High School English teachers Michael Pipa and Aaron Sicotte, and Farnsworth Middle School science teacher, Alan Fiero, were among those earning certification.
National Board Certification is developed by teachers, with teachers, and for teachers.
These extraordinary teachers have voluntarily gone beyond the requirement of our profession to reach a very high standard of excellence, said Richard C. Iannuzzi, president of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), in congratulating the 98 who received their certification. `That not only increases their proficiency, but elevates their students, their colleagues and the school where they teach.`
National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to identify, recognize and reward accomplished teachers and counselors who meet rigorous standards based on what teachers should know and be able to do.
NBPTS requires candidates spend approximately 200 to 400 hours preparing for and completing the certification process, which could take up to three years.“
