The RCS School District will conduct its second Community Information Night Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the high school at 2025 Route 9W in Ravena.
A panel led by principals from each of the RCS schools and high school psychologist Rocco Persico will discuss the evolution of bullying over the past few decades, providing insight on:
The role of technology, cell phones and more in bullying today.
How parents can know if their child is a bully or is being bullied.
The difference between the sexes bullying by boys and girls
What can parents do to stop bullying or protect their child?
The impact and implications of anti-bullying legislation.
What is RCS doing to address bullying?
Persico is currently researching the topic and has looked at bullying trends internationally, nationally and locally. He will discuss his research, what anti-bullying programs work and the latest tools bullies use Web sites, cell phones and camera phones, to name a few.
Additionally, Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School guidance counselor Laurie Abelson, seventh- and eighth-grade Principal Pam Black and high school principals Hakim Jones and Greg Chase will discuss bullying in their schools, how it has evolved over the years and what RCS and educators are doing to address it.
Members of the public will be encouraged to ask questions throughout the night.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the RCS High School Library Media Center.
The event is open to residents from across the Capital District.
