Schalmont Middle School has named its new assistant principal. Matthew Morgan will take on the role at the end of this month, tackling the challenge of transitioning middle school students into high school.
We are confident in Matthew’s ability as an educator, and we are thrilled to have him, said Superintendent Valerie Kelsey.
The position was approved at the Oct. 26 board of education meeting. Morgan comes from the Galway Central School District where he has worked as the assistant principal for the past three years. Prior to his position with Galway, he worked for Mohonasen High School as both the dean of students and as a global studies teacher.
Morgan will replace John Gallo who has accepted a position as the district’s athletic director. Morgan will support Principal Michael Kondratowicz in an attempt to maintain Schalmont’s focus on academic standards.
`We are fortunate to have selected a candidate with vast teaching and administrative experience,` Kondratowicz.
Like Kelsey, Kondratowicz said he is looking forward to having Morgan as a part of the district and said he will conduct teacher observations and review current curriculums.
`I feel he will provide great support with tasks like ensuring a safe and orderly environment,` said Londratowicz.
Morgan is experienced with teaching distance learning classes and coaching several athletic teams, including football and basketball. He was also a member of the Army National Guard from 1991 to 1999. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Union College and his administrator certification from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. He currently resides with his wife and three children in Glenville.
`Matthew’s experience will truly make him an asset to our district,` said Kelsey.
Morgan said he is looking forward to joining the Schalmont staff.
`I have heard nothing but great things about the staff, the parents and the students,` he said. `I am excited to work with the principal, who has been already very supportive.`
Morgan also said that as a native of Rotterdam, he feels he has a good idea of what the community expects of him, and he looks forward to meeting their expectations.
Schalmont Middle School has approximately 528 students and 50 full and part-time teachers, operating with different levels and teams of teachers working together at each level.“
