Sally Rogers, Claudia Schmidt & Emma’s Revolution
May 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Powerful four-part harmonies from folk legends SALLY ROGERS & CLAUDIA SCHMIDT and EMMA’S REVOLUTION celebrate Mothers as women, artists and change-makers and celebrate women’s voices.
Part of the foursome’s new ‘Every Day is Mother’s Day Tour,’ the evening will “lift up mothers and foremothers, trail blazers and hell raisers of all kinds,” says Pat Humphries, half of the duo Emma’s Revolution, with Sandy O. “The actions we can take and the songs we can sing to make this world a better place are the focus of our lives’ work and will take center stage,” says Sally Rogers.
Despite disparate styles, the four accomplished singer-songwriters-instrumentalists share a passionate dedication to harmony, humanity and social justice.
SALLY ROGERS & CLAUDIA SCHMIDT – guitar, dulcimer:
For years they have nurtured their remarkable musical synergy, recording three albums together in addition to the long list of critically acclaimed solo and compilation recordings released by each. They start with soaring harmonies – “blood harmony” was how one fan described it – and their fascinating double dulcimer work, they added the mix of 6- and 12-string guitars, then brought it together with a wide choice of material encompassing originals, traditional, and choice works by contemporary songwriters. Both masters of their craft, they bring an unerring and inventive musicality, and joy in each other’s company. Time has only deepened and enriched the music they create together.
EMMA’S REVOLUTION (Pat Humphries & Sandy O) – guitar:
Known for fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies you can’t resist singing, the award-winning activist duo writes songs that have, been praised by Pete Seeger, and covered by Holly Near. In the spirit of Emma Goldman’s famous attribution, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution,” Emma’s Revolution brings their uprising of truth and hope to concerts and peace & justice, labor, human rights, environmental, LGBT and women’s rights events across the United States and in Canada, Scotland, England, Israel/Palestine, Nicaragua, Cuba, Chile and Korea. inspiring the soaring sounds of choirs, individuals and audiences joining voices to the notes of a call for freedom and justice.
