“Lochend—Monster Hunting on the Run”
By Joseph W. Zarzynski

Wilton author and maritime archaeologist, Joseph W. Zarzynski, will present a PPT talk about his latest book: Lochend—Monster Hunting on the Run (2021).  The presenter will tell how his research and fieldwork at Loch Ness in the 1970s and 1980s inspired him to become a maritime archaeologist.  Zarzynski chronicles the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, when sophisticated technology was first employed trying to solve the Nessie enigma at Loch Ness, Scotland.   That equipment was developed because Cold War tensions necessitated advanced remote sensing to probe the deepest oceans.  Included in the talk are stories about Loch Ness mysteries—Nessie, strange stone circles found on the water’s bottomlands, a full-scale movie-monster prop that sank in the loch, a giant fiberglass net sunk to snare a water beastie, a state-of-the art racing boat that sank during a world speed record attempt, and a rare World War II bomber discovered during a Nessie search.  The presenter will have copies of his book, Lochend—Monster Hunting on the Run ($21.95), for sale and to sign.   The publication was voted “The Best Historical Loch Ness Book of the Year [2021]” by CryptoZooNews and the International Cryptozoology Museum (Portland, Maine).
