ALBANY/SCHOHARIE — Approximately 1,400 high school juniors and seniors from more than two dozen school districts in Albany, Schoharie, Schenectady, and Saratoga counties have enrolled at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center for the 2024-2025 school year.
These students are set to learn skills for a variety of in-demand careers, including welding, video game design, graphic design, fashion design, nursing, construction, and machining.
Despite adding a Welding and Metal Fabrication program classroom at the Schoharie campus and expanding the Early Childhood Education program to include a classroom at Schoharie Elementary School, more than 200 students were on a waitlist during the summer to enter one of the 16 different programs offered.
The Career and Technical Education Center at Capital Region BOCES continues to see strong interest as students seek pathways to employment in skilled trades, reflecting broader national trends that highlight the value of vocational training in preparing for well-paying jobs.
