Obsidian Entertainment unveils story details, new companion for ‘Avowed’
ALBANY—Blizzard Entertainment has shared fresh insights into the story of “Avowed,” a forthcoming role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, set for release in 2024.
The game, revealed through a story trailer, invites players into the vibrant world of Paradis, a port city in the Living Lands.
In “Avowed,” players assume the role of an envoy dispatched by the Aedyran emperor to investigate the mysterious Dreamscourge plague. This affliction, affecting people, animals, and the land itself, begins with confusion and hallucinations before victims transform into violent “Dreamthralls” with physical deformities. The emperor considers the Dreamscourge a critical threat, prompting players to uncover its origins and halt its spread.
Navigating Paradis means aligning with one of three influential figures: the emperor, who prioritizes security; Inquisitor Lödwyn of the Steel Garrote, an extremist paladin faction; or Giatta, a companion who believes in embracing the chaotic forces shaping the Living Lands. Giatta, an animancer focused on soul energy, brings expertise on the plague and the region’s metaphysical environment.
As players journey through the Living Lands, choices made will affect alliances and influence control over the island, providing a unique narrative depth to “Avowed” when it launches next February
