ALBANY—Stuyvesant Plaza announced Athleta and Vineyard Vines will be the outdoor mall’s two newest tenants, each expected to open early next year.
Founded in 1998, Athleta is a women’s activewear brand that empowers women and girls through performance-driven apparel. Initially a standalone company, Athleta was acquired by Gap Inc. in 2008, joining a family of brands that value quality and innovation. Specializing in technical, high-functioning fabrics and designs, Athleta’s clothing supports a wide range of activities, from running and yoga to swimming and hiking.
In addition to its products, Athleta is known for its collaborations with high-profile athletes, including gymnastics champion Simone Biles. Through its clothing, partnerships, and initiatives, Athleta champions an inclusive vision for activewear that celebrates women’s strength and supports their pursuits in all aspects of life.
Vineyard Vines was born out of a shared dream between brothers Shep and Ian Murray, who spent their summers enjoying the “Good Life” on Martha’s Vineyard with friends and family. In 1998, stuck in uninspiring desk jobs, they made a bold decision: they quit, trading their business suits for bathing suits and diving headfirst into entrepreneurship. With no shortage of courage, they walked out of their jobs within minutes of each other and began chasing the American Dream.
Starting with a line of ties inspired by their coastal lifestyle, Vineyard Vines grew rapidly, expanding its reach from the shores of the Vineyard to stores across the U.S., from New England to California. Known for its playful, preppy style, the brand offers a full range of clothing and accessories, from performance wear and casual layers to swimwear and their signature silk products. Today, Vineyard Vines is recognized as the Official Style of the Kentucky Derby, the Premier Lacrosse League, and the Head of the Charles Regatta.
