Are you as disappointed in the Saratoga meet as I am?

The overall quality of the racing may still be good, but all the steam was let out of the meet when Rags to Riches and Curlin were not only taken out of the Travers equation, but out of any Saratoga races altogether. All we have to look forward to now is a Travers Stakes that Kentucky Derby champion Street Sense should win.

Hardly anything to get excited about.

Since there's no room in this week's papers for a column, I thought I'd give my Section II football predictions here. A disclaimer before we go any farther, though: this is completely unscientific. All I'm basing these picks on is gut instinct.

Class AA
Empire Division
Saratoga and defending Section II champion Christian Brothers Academy are both rebuilding with new head coaches. Albany, Queensbury and Shenendehowa are coming off losing seasons in 2006. Ballston Spa, Guilderland and Bethlehem have some veterans returning, but there's some question marks in key skill positions.
