Since Twitter has become such a big hit, I've decided to apply that same concept to my first blog of 2009. So here -- in 140 words or less -- are some thoughts I have about the current state of the sports world:

If Brett Favre was still in Green Bay, he wouldn't be slammed by his teammates in the press the way he has been after one year as a New York Jet. Then again, throwing nine interceptions in the final five games of the season deserves some criticism.

Rod Marinelli, meet Ray Handley and Rich Kotite. That's your future after going 0-16 in Detroit this year.

Some quick observations from the world of Suburban Council basketball:

• Another year, another injury for Saratoga's Jordan Stevens. This time, it's a sprained ankle that's keeping him out of the lineup. If not for the multitude of injuries Stevens has suffered during his varsity career, he'd be well over 1,500 points. That's how good he's been when he's been healthy.

• Shaker suffered its fifth loss by two or fewer points Tuesday night against Bethlehem. Fate has been rather cruel to the Blue Bison, don't you think?

• I don't expect Mohonasen to win the South Division title, but it would be nice to see it happen... Continue Reading
