doing nothing is severely underrated

rgenhofer, now what?
Thank you Lord for Labor Day! The holiday that pretty much no one knows why we have but are very thankful for. Check that, I just “binged” it, my place of work is anti-Google so I have to get used to “binging” it- it just doesn’t sound right, I know. It’s a day to celebrate laborers, you, me, and 90% or so of the U.S.

What better than to celebrate a day for workers by doing absolutely nothing! Somewhat of an oxymoron but it was wonderful. CP and I did nothing, except watch International House Hunters- I’m totally moving to an island- and make our way down an oversaturated street full of vendors, music, and people- West Indian Labor Day Parade or something, saw a short clip on NY1- terrible footage, couldn’t understand a word of it, shame on them... ELECTRIC ZOO

rgenhofer, now what?
There was music, dust, dancing, and most of all, bass. For those who thought Rainbow Bright had faded into the background with the rest of the 80s cartoons, I found its Mecca at Electric Zoo. For those of you who don’t know, and I’m sure it’s the majority, EZ is a two-day music festival on Randall’s Island in NYC.

It’s comprised of several varieties of electronic music, otherwise known as “house” or “trance.” I had never heard of this genre until CP, I shook my head in agreement when he mentioned this interest our first date not knowing what the h*ll he was talking about... Continue Reading

the dating game

rgenhofer, now what?
Dating is fascinating; how to develop your approach for different people, what do, say, or act. What places or activities is first-date appropriate. But before you even get to that point of how to worry about your initial reaction, you need to come into contact with that person first.

Due to the www dating has been revolutionized, and in my opinion become much easier to do. Instead of patrolling your local hotspot to meet Mr./Mrs. Right you can do a quick search and choose from a laundry list of specifications you want your future hunny to have. Which comes in handy if you don’t know any single and ready to mingle people…

What if you had a friend who is technically still in a relationship, but it is going downhill fast... Continue Reading

first big purchase

rgenhofer, now what?
One of my best friend’s, Leah, called me last night around 9:30, “I just made my first big purchase.” Her excitement and that hollow, “I just spent THAT much?” feeling resonated in her voice. Leah made a trip to the Apple store and bought herself a well deserved gift- a new laptop and spoiled her little sister with an iTouch for an early birthday present. It’s a scary yet exhilarating feeling- spending.

Such a reaction to swiping the plastic has led millions into debt and I do not recommend to get accustomed to the temporary high, because when you check your bank account or receive your first bill you will be in a very low place. However that first real-world, out of college, far from the deals you find at Forever 21, is a big deal- one that many will not forget... Continue Reading

TGIF

rgenhofer, now what?
I remember when T.G.I.F. meant one of two things: a) quality family television programming on ABC (Sabrina the Teenage Witch- LOVED) or the national chain that would have at least an hour's wait at Stuyvesant Plaza.

Now TGIF has taken a whole new meaning for me. In school every day was awesome, yes the weekends were the better because you didn't have to worry about waking up for class or cramming to get that paper done, but now that weekends mean freedom from your every day work routine- therefore extremely precious.

Another reason why I am debating to plead my case for why we should be given a half day today is due to the fact that it's Labor Day weekend. Which means: NO WORK ON MONDAY! The thought of being here for 8 hours..... Continue Reading

pay it forward

rgenhofer, now what?
For those who never saw the movie, go see it. "Pay It Forward," was a truly inspirational and tear-jerking film. I haven't heard the term "pay it forward" since that movie years ago, but yesterday I did on the train when a man forgot his monthly pass, and another person gave him their ticket. It made my Tuesday commute a little better knowing that there are nice people out there.

In the rush of things, you look past people, don't pay any attention to their lives because you are so busy with your own... Continue Reading
