pryan, Fri, September 12th, 2008 I'm out to dinner the other night and I'm ranting with my friends about the only call I have received from Siena College(post graduation Y E A R S ago) is the "ask" for $25 bucks. The young Siena student on the other end of the phone was clearly just going through the motions. There was the uninspired scripted "how are you tonight" as they called during the evening. I made it to this round of calls because I gave $100 bucks to the radio station. That triggered the number crunchers to release the hounds on me. So...I tell the young lady... no... hoping there will be a "why?" and there is no follow up. This from the same college that brings you the Siena College Research Institute Polls on politics... trying to keep pace with Marist. During my rant... My friend comes back with "Maria sends me a birthday card every year!" A BIRTHDAY card... I love it! Maria... where they describe their only marketing course as "basic marketing." Siena would do well to take a page from the birthday card play book. My point is this - you've got to give before you get. Give without expecting. ESPECIALLY these days - giving is down so there better be a quality focus on what makes people give. Heck...even the guys from 1-800-Got-Junk sent me a thank you card for their business. Basic marketing ... one customer at a time. CATEGORY: General Society
