I started writing for newspapers in my teens and still can't give it up. Now it is time to blog. Mediums change, but the message doesn't. This blog is dedicated to what is happening in our world, our hometown and our lives. It is from print and online and any other place I can find news. mcintyrej, Thu, January 22nd, 2009 Have you noticed?(I was going to say lately, but it has happened so many times) What is going on with local governments? It is bad enough that we have so many places to send our tax checks in New York, but now it is like pulling teeth to get information about where the money is going. Case in point. Bethlehem - organizational meeting for 2009. In past years, each proposed appointment would have a salary next to it so everyone would know who the appointment was and how much they would be paid. Not this year. The town moved to a grading system. Did you know that the Deputy Commissioner of Public Works is a grade 26 and a Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is a Grade 23 while an Administrative Aide is a Grade 10. So this year it is all games. I think we should leave games for Sunday afternoons. We have a right to know how our government is using our money. Do town officials think we are stupid or just too lazy to ask? I am asking. We will soon have the answers. Fortunately we can FOIL the information and get it to you. I guess I could go back to board meeting minutes from November 12 when the town board approved the budget and see if the grades were mentioned there or I could get the budget document and see what the pay grade scale equates to and cross reference the positions with the grades. That would take a long time. Why do your officals want it to take a long time? Hmmmm. That is a tough one. Yep, it is so you will just give up and leave them alone. For this I have a grade for the Town Board: GRADE F. CATEGORY: Government
