![]() Having it allI'm the senior regional director of communications for the American Heart Association, and former Spotlighter. But the work that consumes me is that of mother, trying to make sense of the world around us, and testing whether you really can have it all. kmccarthy, Mon, June 18th, 2007 It should be the big things that get to my heart, but it's always the small things. At a confirmation service at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Delmar this weekend, it wasn't the Holy Spirit that moved me to tears as one of the newly annointed took a step forward in his spiritual life, but the quiet way his parents held hands as they prayed over their child. It's a tough time of year for those of us with a wide streak of sentimentality, as high school seniors all over the state prepare for graduation. It's not even that big a year for us, since it's one more till Christopher graduates. My currently too-big emotions remind me of the Thursday and Friday before Christopher started kindergarten, when I watched the older children on the street get onto the school bus. I tried to call to him once to come see; this would be him next week, but the words wouldn't get past the lump in my throat. I hope I'm front-ending the emotion and that I'll be able to maintain a shred of dignity at his commencement next year. blog comments powered by Disqus Archives
