Ten minutes at the Tacqueria and I’m confident that the future of our Republic is safe.

Garcia’s Tacqueria is one of our favorite pit stops on Delaware Avenue. Its taco kit - with a side of espinaca and guacamole if I’m feeling flush - saves many a busy evening.

But more than the food, it’s the kids who work there who make my day. It’s been weird as my kids grow up, to start to see their peers working at the local grocery store, drug store and eateries.

So this generational shift seems to be coming a little early. I think our older son is worried about us. He’s overly solicitous these days, which at first makes me suspicious. What has he done wrong? What does he want?

Nice reaction from a mother, eh? Maybe, it occurred to me, he’s just savoring the time with us before he goes to college in the fall. Nah. He’s a funny combination of antsy, cocky and content these days. His last AP exam is this week, he only has one final at the very end of June, and he’s finally taken up driving.

Still, even though we debated - loudly - how much he should study for that last AP exam, he does seem to tolerate us pretty well for somebody about to fly the coop... Continue Reading
