We’re six weeks into living in Nashville, Tenn. – actually Brentwood, a suburb of Nashville – and still unpacking boxes; now, very slowly as I’m completely absorbed by the Beijing Olympics. I’m staying up far too late.
The joy and wonder of great achievements – I’m left speechless by Michael Phelps’s triumphs in the pool and by the 100m dash performances of Jamaican newcomers, Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser. STOP PRESS: Bolt has won the 200m dash with a new world record. I’m proud of the successes of the British cycling team – the likes of Hoy, Wiggins, Romero and Pendleton – to win 14 road and track medals... CATEGORY: Olympics

I’m battling my arch nemesis, strep throat. Whenever I’m run down, my throat is my first line of defense. It probably stands to reason as I love to talk!
In fact, the whole family has been struck by this nasty bug. Let me tell you it’s no fun to beg a five- and three-year-old to drink shockingly bright pink medication. And I have another five days to go. Somebody give me strength… Being sick makes you crave strange things (or maybe not so strange) like double, nay triple, chocolate cake and fried green tomatoes. Chocolate is the cure-all of many ills. Fried green tomatoes are tasty; they’re sort of tangy, salty and sweet and appeal to my struggling taste buds... CATEGORY: Culture

Coffee MatesSUSAN S. CHEUNG (known to many as Shifay--Chinese middle name.) Welcome to my world. I'm a resident from across the pond who lives in the Capital District. For 13 years, I was all about my career and being successful. Becoming a mother twice in my mid- to late-30s made me take stock. Now my life is a hectic whirl of being a stay-at-home mom of two young children. I face the challenges of being a woman, an older mother, a non-American and a short person! Fortunately, I'm rescued from making too many faux pas by my coffee group (my mates)-- a great bunch of women in different situations of life. We meet in the guise of drinking coffee, but really it's about keeping our sanity intact. My blog is my take on the daily issues that affect us.
