I have to admit, I'm still a little starstruck from meeting Andy Rooney on Friday when he came to speak during the Albany Academy alumni lecture series. For days now I've been reading segments of one of his books, "Out of my Mind," which is basically a compilation of essays ranging in topics from politics to personal anecdotes.
One essay which I seem to keep re-reading is entitled "Things I Love to Hate." He lists things that drive him absolutely bonkers, several of which drive me absolutely bonkers as well. So, I thought it might be fun to write up a list of things that I love to hate.
Things I love to hate:
The phrase "knock on wood" (especially when a person actually knocks on the nearest piece of wood when saying it).
When a person looks at their watch while in my company.
Touching paper after touching water (the oil in your hands dries up and it's just such a terrible feeling to me).
Lol, rofl, ttyl and other instant-messenger language, other than brb-I use that one a lot.
Having to shake hands with my right hand (pay attention next time, I usually use my left).
Looking up an answer when I can just ask someone.
Children on leashes.
Adults in Looney Tunes t-shirts.
Tomatoes.
People who don't hold the door after them.
Halloween decorations in retail stores in August.
Pop-ups.
Having one bite left of your popsicle when you want so much more.
Eating another popsicle when I know I shouldn't.
How the price of stamps rises.
How the price of everything rises.
When the employee of the drive-thru offers you something you inevitably do not want before you place your order.
Bugs.
A voice other than that of whom I am calling leaving the voicemail message on a person's voicemail.
CAPITALIZATION (life would be so much simpler if nothing was capitalized).
Surprises.
That's all I got right now. I'm sure there are many more things I love to hate, or simply just hate. But if there was nothing to hate in life, it would be so boring. Plus complainers like me would have nothing to complain about.
