I think it's fair to say I had some interesting crimes in my blotter this week. Every week there's at least one or two that makes me ask, "really?" but this week, I just didn't know where people were coming up with this stuff.
Take for example the young man(you'll have to read the print-version of the paper to get the real names ;) ) that stole the bike. Now, once upon a time a bike was stolen from me. Actually, from my basement, while I was sleeping. A friend of my brother's broke in around 3 a.m. and stole the bike to get to where he needed to go. Once he was there, and wasn't ready to face the consequences of breaking and entering...he rolled the bike into the lake, and didn't tell a soul for about 3 days... CATEGORY: General Society

It's not every day a story makes me contemplate my moral integrity. But today, one did.
Without revealing exactly the way the tale goes, basically, it is one of a young person in need of an organ. While a story can be happy, or deeply sad, a story's really just a story until it happens to you. Which made me wonder. If my mother, or father, or brother needed an organ, would I put myself under the knife to give them one? This reminded me of an episode of Grey's Anatomy (a terrible source for a news reporter to use). In one of the few episodes of that terrible program, an older man desperately needed a heart of a specific and rare bloodtype... CATEGORY: General Society

I am making an oath. One that takes a lot of willpower and drive. One that requires me to constantly think before I speak. I will no longer complain about how hot it is outside.
It sounds simple, but over the weekend, I think I've caught myself in the phrase, "Uh, it's so hot," at least three dozen times. Now, as I sit in this lovely air-conditioned office, I can see how that phrase, and others like it, could get annoying to people who are suffering around me, quietly sweating and keeping their traps shut. So from today on, through 95, 96, 99, and, oh man, even 100+ weather, I vow to never again express my discomfort in butt-sticking-to-seat-too-hot-to-breath-sweat-burning-my-eyes weather. Is it a fruit, or is it a vegetable? I don't even care. It's gross. I have been disgusted by the gooey red disaster of a salad ingredient since the day its smooth skin touched my pallet. This is no simple dislike. With all my heart and soul, I can honestly say I would rather lose an eye than chew and swallow even a piece of a tomato. I know what you're thinking. She probably ate too many tomatoes when she was younger and is sick of them. She probably hasn't tried one in a while. She probably hasn't tried one grown fresh in a garden. NO. I have tried them fresh from a garden. I have tried them recently when my mother tried to slip one in my food and I gagged as I spit it on my plate... CATEGORY: General Society

I've seen birds everywhere. In the trees, eating used hotdog buns off the sidewalk, pooping on parked-car-windows, and, this morning connected to the hand of a senior citizen on Delaware Avenue.

Colonie has really become the place to be this week...at least for me (this sentence almost entirely rhymes). But really, the stream of news which has piqued interest in Colonie as the month comes to a conclusion is really getting juicy.
