You've seen it from across the store. You've looked longingly at its turquoise coat and wondered how much money it would cost you to make it a part of your home. And soon, I will make it a part of mine.
For anyone who has shopped at the Macy's in Colonie Center over the past four months, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The turquoise bulldog that sits eloquently on the table of with BCBG sweaters. I am currently on a quest to get my hands on that turquoise dog, but have come to notice many of you have tried to get the dog as well. I figure now's as good a time as any to revamp the Town Board Update. Especially on the eve of what Supervisor Paula Mahan labeled "the shortest meeting ever."
Every single item was approved on tonight's agenda. The most interesting of which was the topic of my most recent 24/7 update. Here it is: What happened at the Rod and Gun Club will never happen again. At least it should not ever happen again as long as Town of Colonie officials abide by a new spoils policy that was put in place by the Town Board tonight (Thursday, Nov. 6)... At a special Town Board meeting, Colonie Town Comptroller Craig Blair presented the supervisor, town board members, and public with a tentative 2009 budget that represents a total of $86.9 million and a 3 percent tax increase for homeowners.
Supervisor Paula Mahan said that she was "jumping for joy" that the town could present residents with only a 3 percent increase over last year's budget, and one that represents a 5.3 percent decrease over the actual expenses of 2007 that totaled $91.8 million. The 3 percent increase for homeowners represents $2.80 per thousand of assessed value, so, for an average home assessed at a value of $140,000, the property tax would be increased by $11.20... I have to admit, I'm still a little starstruck from meeting Andy Rooney on Friday when he came to speak during the Albany Academy alumni lecture series. For days now I've been reading segments of one of his books, "Out of my Mind," which is basically a compilation of essays ranging in topics from politics to personal anecdotes.
One essay which I seem to keep re-reading is entitled "Things I Love to Hate." He lists things that drive him absolutely bonkers, several of which drive me absolutely bonkers as well. So, I thought it might be fun to write up a list of things that I love to hate. Things I love to hate: The phrase "knock on wood" (especially when a person actually knocks on the nearest piece of wood when saying it)... CATEGORY: General Society

In the past two days, something has been made abundantly clear to me: by the time I'm ready to buy a house, there is no way I will be able to buy a house.

Lots of things were missing from tonight's Town Board meeting. TV cameras, Councilman Brian Hogan, public comments and an agenda with over 20 items.

It just doesn't make sense.
Mainly, what I don't understand is, why, if you like a team, do you have to HATE another team? You don't hate all teams, but you usually hate just one. It's not that you don't like them because of the colors they wear, or because they're doing terribly. You, at least some of you, hate a team because they are doing well.
