Local Updates (24/7) Police officer injured in auto crash Posted on: 10/07/09 Written by: Spotlight Newsroom, Staff email: news@spotlightnews.com On Wedneday, Oct.7 at about 10 a.m. a Saratoga Springs Police Officer was injured in a motor vehicle crash on Route 9 South approximately 100 feet south of the intersection with the Avenue of the Pines. According Ltnt. Gregory Veitch with the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga Springs Police Officer Thomas Sartin was responding to another motor vehicle accident in the area with the emergency lights activated on his marked police vehicle when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Mazda 6. According to Veitch, both vehicles were traveling southbound when the accident occurred. The Mazda 6 sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene; the driver was not reported to be injured. Officer Sartin’s vehicle sustained major rear end and undercarriage damage and was also towed from the scene. It is reported by Veitch that Officer Sartin suffered back and neck injuries and was treated and released at the Saratoga Hospital. He is expected to miss several days of work recovering from the injuries. The driver of the Mazda 6, Erin Dreyer of Saratoga Springs, was ticketed for Following too Closely in violation of section 1129-A of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
