Local Updates (24/7) Construction to begin on replacement of Malta Ave. bridge Posted on: 09/22/09 Written by: Spotlight Newsroom, Staff email: news@spotlightnews.com The New York State Department of Transportation announced today that they are beginning of construction of a $3.5 million project to replace the bridges carrying Malta Avenue, Saratoga County Rt. 63, over Interstate 87 (the Adirondack Northway). The project was awarded to Bette & Cring, LLC, of Latham, N. Y. The bridges were built in 1962 during the construction of the Northway. The project will incorporate a separated sidewalk that will be a part of the future town multi-use path along the roadway. A new concrete barrier will separate pedestrians and bicyclists from traffic on the bridge and its approaches. Improvements to the roadway include new guide rails and drainage. The bridges accommodate approximately 7,400 vehicles per day. Construction is planned to begin in mid-September 2009 with completion scheduled for fall 2010. The tentative project schedule calls for the bridge to close in April 2010 until September 2010. You can contact news@spotlightnews.com with any questions. Also, feel free to post comments below.
